Last week I’ve ended my career at Yellowtail. I’ve given THE LETTER to my manager after having a couple of conversations with him. It was not an easy decision. Not only is Yellowtail a very good employer but I’ve also made some friends at the office. I’ve learned quite a bit and I have developed in the field of Business Consultancy. But the circle was not round.  

When you get to know me, you will see that I get a lot of energy when things go the good way. I am loaded with ideas and new initiatives. But it felt like I was not taking the full advantage of who I was. I was searching for a combination of tasks which I could not find with any employer. Not with Yellowtail, not with Mirabeau, not with Inter Access… So, I set my mind on creating my own space. I wanted to create a working space in which I can define what to do and when to do it.

The last year I have thought about every (business) issue I had to solve or had to manage, and any escalation I had to deal with. I thought about the decisions I had to make if I it were my own and not having a manager who would coach me. Not in the name of any of my former employers but in the name of BusinessBrains. At first it seamed a scary thought, but actually it wasn’t. I felt better and more certain about the every decision I took.

That made me realize that I was ready to make the decision. I felt ready for the next step in my life and I took it. I quitted my day job.

And now…

… it is crisis which strikes the clock. “No more job openings for freelancers”. “The economy is going down”. But that is one side of the coin. Just flip the coin and you will read the following: “Freelancers feel less of the economic crisis” (source: ZZP-nl).

So what to believe? My strong advice is “Believe in yourself!” If you think you can proof your customer wrong… If you think you can make a difference… If you believe in yourself, than go for it. My company’s motto is “Brings Color”. Why should you listen to anyone who doesn’t have the courage to do what you want to do?

It took quite some time to be were I am today. It is a process of believing, growing and learning. Do not think it is easy money, because it is not! I am happy to tell you all about it. I simply do not have the time today to stop. Writing this down in a blog makes me realize that I have accomplished something. Now I only have to convince my future customers.
